How We Work

Winter Springs Performing Arts is an educational theatre. Once you have an audition slot, you are guaranteed placement in one of our shows. Your audition will help us understand what level you are performing at and what you need to learn. You will be placed in the production(s) that will best support your theatre education.

What to Prepare

For our Junior Shows:
In-Person Audition (preferred)

Please prepare 16-32 bars (30-60 seconds) of a song of your choice - a musical theatre song in the style of the show is highly encouraged, and songs from the show are preferred over a non-musical theatre cut, but any song is fine. You may sing acapella, with a track on a device/speaker that you bring with you, or bring sheet music and an accompanist will be provided.

All auditions will also include a dance call. As such, please wear clothes and shoes that you can dance in (leggings, tights, sneakers, jazz shoes, etc.). Long pants or tights are highly recommended.

Callbacks will be held at the first rehearsal of each show.

Virtual Audition (if your student cannot attend the in-person auditions)

NOTE: Details for how to submit a virtual audition (including dance videos) will be available here by July 12th.

Please video yourself performing TWO things: 16-32 bars (30-60 seconds) of a song of your choice  and the provided dance call of your choice (standard or advanced). Students most interested in Guys and Dolls Jr. are encouraged to try the advanced call- mastery is not expected nor necessary! Song cuts in the style of the show are highly encouraged, and songs from the show are preferred over a non-musical theatre cut, but any song is fine. You may sing acapella or with a track on a device/speaker. Please make sure that the video of the song cut includes the performer's entire upper body, the face is clear, and the camera isn't too far away. Additionally please make sure that the lighting is bright enough that we can see their face! Videos can be uploaded to youtube (unlisted) or to Google Drive (please turn on sharing permissions) and then the link can be uploaded in the audition form. For the dance video, please make sure that the camera includes their entire body. Please make sure that the performers wear clothes that they can move in. These can be two separate videos, videoed in one take, or two separate videos edited together and submitted as one. Please have the student slate at the beginning of the video with their name and the song they will be singing.

Virtual auditions for any of the Jr. productions must be submitted by midnight on Saturday, July 26th to be considered with the in-person auditions. If there is space in any of the Jr. programs after initial show placements, additional virtual auditions will be placed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For our Main Stage Production:

In-Person Auditions (preferred if possible)

All auditions will also include a dance call. Kiss Me, Kate is an advanced dance show and will have an advanced dance call. Please video yourself performing TWO things: 16-32 bars (30-60 seconds) of a musical theater song in the style of the show and the provided advanced dance call. The Stage is an educational theatre, so mastery is not expected, but we do want to see what dance abilities you possess, as some foundation is required to be considered for Kiss Me, Kate. Videos can be uploaded to youtube (recommended setting: unlisted) or to Google Drive (please turn on sharing permissions) and then the link can be uploaded in the audition form. For the dance video, please make sure that the camera includes their entire body. Please make sure that the performers wear clothes that they can move in. These can be two separate videos, videoed in one take, or two separate videos edited together and submitted as one. Please slate clearly with your name and the song to be performed at the beginning of the video.

Virtual auditions for Kiss Me, Kate must be submitted by midnight on Thursday, July 24th to be considered with the in-person auditions.

Callbacks will be on Wednesday, July 30, from 6 pm - 9 pm. They will consist of a dance call, solo music, and side reading. Not everyone who auditions for Kiss Me, Kate will receive a callback, and not everyone who is called back will be offered a spot in the show as this is our advanced production, but if a student is not offered a space in KMK, they will be offered a spot in a Jr. production if they are interested.

Please Note:

A $50.00 registration deposit is required prior to auditions.
