Alice By Heart

In the rubble of the London Blitz of World War II, Alice Spencer’s budding teen life is turned upside down, and she and her dear friend Alfred are forced to take shelter in an underground tube station. When the ailing Alfred is quarantined, Alice encourages him to escape with her into their cherished book and journey down the rabbit hole to Wonderland.

Spongebob, The Musical: Youth Edition

​Who lives in a pineapple under the sea and became the hottest star on Broadway? Why, it's SpongeBob SquarePants! This one-hour edition of the hit Broadway musical, brilliantly adapted from the iconic Nickelodeon series, is specially tailored for young actors.

​

Rehearsals: July 6-17; Weekdays 9am - 3pm

Performances: July 17-19

Ages: 6th grade and up

Disney's The Little Mermaid JR.​

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.

Disney's Moana JR.​

This thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana JR. is sure to bring out the hero within each of us.

Wonderland

Just moments away from a promotion, Alice has been estranged from her husband and alienated from her daughter. When a dream transports her to Wonderland, she encounters strange yet familiar characters including a Cheshire Cat with a fabulous flair, a delightfully dotty Queen of Hearts, and  a malicious Mad Hatter. Through her journey, Alice finds a new sense of balance and strength within herself as she reconnects with her inner child and learns to believe in herself again.

Rehearsals: August 3-7; 10am-6pm

Performances: August 7-8

Ages: Incoming 9th graders and up (one female role for 10+)

How We Work

 

Winter Springs Performing Arts is an educational theatre. Once you have an audition slot, you are guaranteed placement in one of our shows. Your audition will help us understand what level you are performing at and what you need to learn. You will be placed in the production(s) that will best support your theatre education.

What to Prepare

 

You may choose to print and fill out an audition form and bring it (SIGNED BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN) to your audition slot. If a parent or guardian will be present at the audition, you may fill out an audition form provided by us on the day of. See below for a blank form. The auditionee will not receive a show placement until we have received a SIGNED audition form.

For our Junior Shows:
In-Person Audition (preferred)

Please prepare 16-32 bars (30-60 seconds) of a song of your choice - a musical theatre song in the style of the show (not from the show) is highly encouraged, but songs from the show are preferred over a non-musical theatre cut. If you are newer to auditioning, you may sing any song you feel confident in! You may sing acapella, with a track on a device/speaker that you bring with you, or bring sheet music and an accompanist will be provided.

 

All auditions will also include a dance call. As such, please wear clothes and shoes that you can dance in (leggings, tights, sneakers, jazz shoes, etc.). Long pants or tights are highly recommended.

​

Callbacks will be held at the first rehearsal of each show.

Virtual Audition (if your student cannot attend the in-person auditions) 
Please video yourself performing TWO things: 16-32 bars (30-60 seconds) of a song of your choice  and the provided dance call, which will be found at the bottom of this page after a date soon to be announce. A musical theatre song in the style of the show (not from the show) is highly encouraged, but songs from the show are preferred over a non-musical theatre cut. If you are newer to auditioning, you may sing any song you feel confident in! You may sing acapella or with a track on a device/speaker. Please make sure that the video of the song cut includes the performer's entire upper body, the face is clear, and the camera isn't too far away. Additionally please make sure that the lighting is bright enough that we can see their face! Videos can be uploaded to Google Drive (please turn on sharing permissions), Vimeo, or other video sharing software, and then the link can be uploaded in the audition form. DUE TO COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS, VIDEOS CANNOT BE SHARED THROUGH YOUTUBE. For the dance video, please make sure that the camera includes their entire body. Please make sure that the performers wear clothes that they can move in. These can be two separate videos, videoed in one take, or two separate videos edited together and submitted as one. Please have the student slate at the beginning of the video with their name and the song they will be singing.

Virtual auditions for any of the Jr. productions must be submitted by Friday, May 8th at Midnight to be considered with the in-person auditions. If there is space in any of the Jr. programs after initial show placements, additional virtual auditions after the deadline will be placed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

​

Virtual Auditions will open on April 16th.​​

For our Main Stage Productions (Alice By Heart):

In-Person Auditions (preferred if possible)

Please prepare 16-32 bars (30-60 seconds) of a musical theater song in the style of the show (not from the show). You may sing with a track on a device/speaker that you bring with you, bring sheet music and an accompanist will be provided, or sing acapella. Backing music of some kind is preferred over a cappella as it demonstrates musicality, intonation, and rhythm.

​

All auditions will also include a dance call. As such, please wear clothes and shoes that you can dance in (leggings, tights, sneakers, jazz shoes, etc.). Long pants or tights are highly recommended as floor work is often a part of dance calls.

​

Virtual Audition (if your student cannot attend the in-person auditions)

Please video yourself performing TWO things: 16-32 bars (30-60 seconds) of a musical theater song in the style of the show and the provided dance call, which will be found at the bottom of this page on a date soon to be announced. Please sing a piece in the style of the show but not from the show. You may sing with a track on a device/speaker or acapella, but please note that with a track is preferred. Please make sure that the video of the song cut includes the performer's entire upper body, the face is clear, and the camera isn't too far away. Additionally please make sure that the lighting is bright enough that we can see their face! Virtual auditions for the mainstage must be submitted by Friday, May 8th at Midnight to be considered with the in-person auditions.

Callbacks for the mainstage will be Thursday, May 14th, from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm. They will consist of a dance call, solo music, ensemble music, and side reading. Not everyone who auditions for Alice By Heart will receive a callback, and not everyone who is called back will be offered a spot in the show as this is our advanced production, but if a student is not offered a space in the mainstage, they will be offered a spot in a Jr. production if they are interested.​​

For our Show-In-A-Week

Show-In-A-Week Auditions are exclusively virtual, and will open on May 11th. Callbacks will be held on an evening the week of July 27th. from 5-10 pm. They will consist of solo music, ensemble music, and side reading, as well as learning the choreography for one entire ensemble number of the show. PLEASE NOTE not everyone who auditions for Wonderland will receive a callback, BUT everyone who is called back will be offered a spot in the show as this is our Show-In-A-Week. By attending callbacks, you are accepting whatever role you may receive upon casting. Auditions are due on June 29th at 11:59 pm. â€‹â€‹

A $50.00 registration deposit is required prior to all regular season auditions

(does not include  the Show-In-A-Week)

If you are a new student in our audition-level productions, a parent meeting is required.

You will be able to attend this meeting during in- person auditions and additional options for new virtual auditioners will be offered.
